Our Bespoke Service

At Bowland Atelier, you are working directly with the artist who is going to create your fine art painting.  With over twenty years experience in the art industry, Cassandra and John provide a personal service tailored to your unique requirements.  Many of our clients have not previously commissioned a painting.  John and Cassandra are available throughout the journey, to take the fear of the unfamiliar out of the process, provide advice and guidance, and generally ensure everything runs smoothly. We have a history of successful commissions and happy clients, who tell us they have had a fabulous experience, as well as owning a stunning piece of bespoke fine art.

Whilst no two commissions are ever the same, the process is broadly as follows:

INITIAL CONSULTATION

We recommend visiting our studios to see first hand commission examples, and review our catalogue of previous paintings. We will talk through your thoughts and ideas, and address any queries or concerns you may have.  Initial consultations can take place in the studio or at your home.

Some considerations:

  • What are you trying to achieve?
  • Where will the work hang?
  • Are you working to a deadline?
  • Do you have a budget in mind?

Drawing on our years of experience we can provide invaluable advice on size, finish and special requirements, i.e. presenting the finished portrait as a surprise gift. At this stage a 50% deposit is required to secure your slot in the studio schedule.

PREPARATORY WORK

We will carry out any photoshoots, sittings or site visits to ensure we have the highest quality primary sources for the final painting. At this stage, the artist will usually prepare preliminary sketches or studies to determine the composition of the final painting, and review any key elements.

FINAL PAINTING

Once the painting is finished, we have a final assessment to ensure you are 100% happy. Final payment is required once you have signed off the painting.  The cost of framing is not included in the price of a commission.  However, we are able to offer the bespoke services of our preferred framer to our clients, to provide you with a finished, framed painting ready to hang on your wall.
